Something about counting the number of Leads and Bights

The number of Leads can be counted by counting the number of "ropes" which make a full turn around the object the knot is on. Don't add the number of Plies! This might sound a bit confusing so there is a little trick to make it easier for you. Just count the number of crossings for TWO and the number of Bights for ONE and add them up. This gives you the number of Leads. Please take a good look at Fig. 4, 5 and 6. Counting the number of Bights is much easier. Just look at the side of (each) Turk's Head and count all the "half spherical" segments you see. (They appear in the middle, go to the outside and are going back to middle in a 90 degree angle.)

 

Iets over het tellen van het aantal Slagen en Bochten

Het aantal slagen in een Turkse knoop kan geteld worden door over de BREEDTE van de knoop het aantal "touwen", dat een volledig rondje maakt te tellen. Hierbij moet het aantal VERMEERDERINGEN niet meegeteld worden. Hier is een trucje voor. Tel het aantal kruisingen voor TWEE en de bochten voor één. (Zie de rondjes in de tekeningen van Fig. 4, 5 en 6.) Het tellen van de bochten is een stuk eenvoudiger. Het enige wat je hoeft te doen is het aantal bollingen aan de zijkant van (elke) Turkse knoop te tellen. De bollingen komen vanuit het midden naar buiten en gaan steeds weer onder een hoek van 90 graden terug naar het midden.
